Testimonies of Healing

Science and Health sustains her through a rocky childhood

From the January 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

From The Time I was a teenager Science and Health has been my constant companion. We became best friends at a time when there seemed to be very little love and friendship in my life.

My parents divorced when my brother and I were quite young. One summer, things were a bit rough for me with my mom and new stepdad. I responded, one day, by threatening to go live with my dad and stepmom. To my surprise, the next day my brother and I were sent off on a 36-hour bus ride from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Miles City, Montana.

All was not bliss at our new house. My dad and stepmom already had two children, and the addition of two more made my stepmom less than happy. There was constant fighting, and my stepmom was physically abusive to my brother and two younger sisters, and verbally abusive to all of us. These instances usually occurred when my dad was at work. This turmoil, combined with other problems, made for a very unsettling home environment.
