About 20 years ago I had several instances of discomfort from a wisdom tooth. During that time, my mother passed away. As I prayed through that experience, I learned more clearly that life truly is spiritual and that matter is not the core of its substance. As I got a better sense of this, the pain from the tooth was also healed.
In the succeeding years, though, my dentist pointed out to me that I had a wisdom tooth coming in sideways. He showed me X-rays of it. At one point he said the tooth had a cavity, but because it had to come out, he wasn't going to fill it. I wasn't having any trouble with the tooth, however, so I didn't arrange to have it pulled.
Several months later, I awoke one morning with my jaw so swollen that I could barely speak or eat. I called a Christian Science practitioner for help in praying about it. We prayed to understand more about God, and I put aside any self-diagnosis. From the standpoint of my identity as God's child, I knew that my expression of divine Love could not be impaired or in pain. I included only the purity of God.
