Global fears or family fears? Lean on God

From the November 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For some years my business required me to work a great deal throughout Asia. I traveled to Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, and many other countries.

Now today in my home in Australia, I hear a lot of negative news about these regions. I just can't help feeling saddened when I read in the morning papers about reports of nuclear weapons in Korea, terrorist activities in Indonesia, or related events that threaten people in and around this diverse range of countries. The news is particularly unnerving because Australia is so close to these countries.

But rather than leave things there, and feel helpless and depressed, I pray. Every morning, I try to mentally counter the bad news with an affirmation that God is in charge, that good alone has power. I like to recall the first line in Science and Health, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." Science and Health, p. vii. And that brings me comfort and healing.
