Many people think of the 1960s as a time of political and social turmoil, even revolution in various nations. For example, in 1965 in Indonesia, a plot by some army officers threatened President Sukarno's government; from 1966–1969 the most active phase of the Cultural Revolution took place in China; and in the United States growing resistance to the Vietnam War and the struggle of African Americans for civil rights all had a significant impact.
