THE MOMENTUM CONTINUES

Taking action—in response to the demand

From the February 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Letters, e-mails, and phone calls continue to pour in from friends and members who are building on the ideas from 2002 Annual Meeting & Conference of The Church of Christ, Scientist. The meeting explored three overarching messages: the universality of Christian Science; Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures as a resource for everyone; and Mary Baker Eddy's design for a Church to respond to today's demand for spiritual answers. Individuals of different ages and locales have been motivated by these ideas and are finding unique ways to interact with the seekers they are finding in their own communities. Here are a few of their stories:

My Social Studies Teacher was absent one day. The next day, she came in and apologized to the class for not being there. Her best friend had gotten into a serious accident. He had dived into a pool, and the pool had been too shallow. I could tell my teacher was going though a lot of pain for her friend, and on my way out of class that day I was planning to pray for her. But I also ended up telling her about a book that could help her. This book was Science and Health. I told her I referred to this book often. She seemed touched that someone would care so much and wanted to know more about the book and where she could get it. I bought a copy of Science and Health that night after church, and the next day I came into school and gave it to her. Later, my teacher told me, "That's one of the nicest things anyone's ever done for me."
