The Herald visits Korea

From the April 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

During the nearly one hundred years that the Herald of Christian Science has been published, there have been several multi-language editions, as well as one-time issues that combined more than one language. In the Spring of 2002, a special edition of the Herald was issued to tie in with the World Cup Soccer finals in Japan and Korea, So-Whan Hyon, who lives in Seoul, Korea, and is a member of the Christian Science Society there, tells about how the magazine affected him and others.

The joint Herald of Spring 2002 in Japanese, Korean, and English was the first time testimonies of Christian Science healing have been published in the Korean language. It also included a Korean translation of the short article "Angels," by Mary Baker Eddy, Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896, pp. 306-307 . and an inspiring article by a well-known international journalist, Takashi Oka. The Herald attracted great interest among members of our Christian Science Society in Seoul, their friends, and new readers of the Herald and Science and Health. For many people, lingering doubts about the practicality of the healing power of Christian Science appear to have turned into nods of approval. These testimonies of healing are living examples of how Christian Science resolves problems in everyday life.

Much the same as in other countries, we find in Korea today an increasing call for health and healing. I believe that more articles in the Korean language, along with more reports of healing from Koreans, would help meet such demands for Christian Science in our land.
