Testimonies of Healing

'Frozen shoulder' healed

From the August 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Last November, for no apparent reason, my shoulder became so painful that I couldn't move or touch it. Since my husband noticed I was having difficulty finding a comfortable position in which to sleep, he thought it would be best to take me to the hospital. That was on a Sunday.

X-rays were taken and the doctor informed me that I had a calcified, or "frozen," shoulder. She said it could take as long as 18 months to heal. She also said I would need physiotherapy, in combination with some other treatment, to ease the pain and speed the recovery.

I told my husband that I wasn't happy with the prospect of such a treatment and that instead I wanted to rely on prayer in order to be healed. I phoned a Christian Science practitioner and asked her to pray for me. During our conversation I mentioned I had been feeling the effects of some unresolved family issues, and I thought those were somehow the driving force behind the problem. The practitioner, though, was quick to remind me that God never punishes. And that statement was a real relief, because it was something I knew had to be true about a God who is Love.
