If a picture is worth a thousand words . . .

How many words are 36,665 pictures worth?

From the November 2004 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Illustrations from The Flaming Fire Illustrated Bible

To Translate the Bible is a formidable task, but almost as formidable is the thought of illustrating all 36,665 of its verses. The Flaming Fire Illustrated Bible Project aims to do just that. Spearheaded by Patrick and Kate Ham–brecht, the nondenominational project wants nonartists as well as artists to participate.

"I think that at least half the people in the world think in pictures," says Patrick, who first got the idea for the project after he and his wife attended parties where professional artists drew comics for 24 hours. "I thought it would be really neat to do a marathon project and illustrate the whole Bible."
