In Africa, they dance—and sell Science and Health

From the November 2004 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Over 2,000 people came to hear a talk last March by Chris O'Riordan-Adjah in a village outside Kampala, Uganda. The village is the home of Lamech Katamba. Many came from the six neighboring villages, as well, and 72 copies of Science and Health were sold on the spot. More could have been sold, but this was all that members of the Christian Science Society in Kampala could fit in the car they rented to drive to the village.

Many people who attended the lecture had no money with them, but they asked Mr. Katamba to visit their villages later so that they could buy copies of the book. Another 200 copies have been ordered and will be sold through the store in the village where the lecture was held.

Before Mr. O'Riordan-Adjah's lecture started, students from the local school presented music and dancing. The lecture was summarized in Luganda, the language spoken in the village. After the lecture, the council chief gave a speech referring to Science and Health, which he has been reading for two years. The chiefs of the six neighboring villages all asked to have Science and Health sold locally.
