Testimonies of Healing

The strength to persist

From the November 2004 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The first symptom was numbness. It happened on my way home from work. I was driving at night on a busy freeway when I suddenly had no feeling in my right hand and literally lost my grip on the steering wheel. This terrified me. I didn't know what was happening.

One thing I love about Christian Science, the system of prayer outlined in Mary Baker Eddy's book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, is that it's always available. No matter where I am or what the situation, help is always there because I can pray. I've learned that God is always communicating good ideas and that listening for those ideas is an effective form of prayer, because it helps me feel the presence and love of God. And feeling that presence gets rid of fear and sickness of any kind.

So that's what I tried to do as I continued driving—to pray and listen and understand God's love for me. But I was still afraid, battling mental images of what the problem was—or could become.
