Helping people with what already works for you

From the February 2004 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My Involvement with TRIM over the years has helped me share my faith with others. I'm a Christian Scientist, and I've had numerous opportunities to share Science and Health with those interested in knowing more about Christian Science or who have a need for healing.

I had given a Buddhist friend a copy of the book. One day he called to say he was in a sticky situation. He had been fined for a defect on his car and for a lapse in his car insurance. He phoned just as he was going to the courthouse to settle the fine, and he was worried about the implications of a lack of integrity, as well as his ability to pay the fine. We talked about the statement in Science and Health that says, "Honesty is spiritual power." Science and Health, p. 453.

All the way to the courtroom, he kept thinking, "I'm taking 100 percent responsibility for my life." He knew he didn't need to come up with any stories or excuses he could say to the judge to possibly get himself out of having to pay the fine. He felt a complete trust and peace, and knew that everything was going to work out, no matter what the outcome. He knew he would tell the truth in the courtroom. He was relieved when the judge said, "Whoever filled out this ticket did it wrong. I'm not going to fine you anything."
