Spiritual healing: a conversation with Jer Master of Bombay

From the February 2004 issue of The Christian Science Journal

has always been a healer. Once a medical doctor, she is now a Christian Science practitioner and teacher. Her home is Bombay (officially called Mumbai), India's economic, educational, and cultural center, a Manhattan-like island of 12 million people on the Arabian Sea. It's a city that never sleeps, a city carved by narrow roads thick with "traffic and noise," says Jer, who lives and works in midtown in a large, five-room, second-floor apartment. "If I want to talk on the phone and not have traffic noise transmitted to you," she explains, conveying that inner quiet is often easier to achieve than outer quiet, "I have to shut the windows and use the air conditioner."

A member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, Jer has traveled the world for over 15 years—throughout North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa—spreading the age-old message that God is always present to help and heal. She spoke (via telephone) with the Journal's about spiritual healing.

You made a switch from the medical world to the spiritual-healing world—from being a physician to being a metaphysician. For those who haven't heard you lecture or read your articles, See, for example, "Your children are in God's care," Journal, March 1994; "Freedom is a right." Journal, February 2003 . could you recap how that happened?
