Sharing Science and Health—one neighbor at a time

From the February 2004 issue of The Christian Science Journal

who participated in 2003 Annual Meeting of The Mother Church & Conference, has taken the story of the good Samaritan to heart. Rita has visited over 300 of her neighbors in her hometown of Plymouth, Massachusetts, sharing Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and telling people about the book's author, Mary Baker Eddy. Rita's love and gratitude for Christian Science has motivated her to respond to others who may be searching for spiritual answers. Sharing Science and Health with neighbors one to one is not new. Mrs. Eddy's early followers were encouraged by her to sell the book door to door. This is Rita's story.

Rita, what prompted you to want to share Science and Health in your community?

In one of the sessions of 2003 Annual Meeting of The Mother Church & Conference, someone mentioned that they went door to door telling people in the neighborhood about the local Christian Science Sunday School, and I thought, "Why not go door to door sharing Science and Health?" This book has helped me so much, I feel compelled to share it with my neighbors. I think a lot about the two great commandments that Jesus gave us: "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. . . . And . . . Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Matt. 22:37, 39. And I tell people, this is what I'm doing by offering Science and Health door to door. I'm loving my neighbor.
