Testimonies of Healing

A little leaven

From the November 2005 issue of The Christian Science Journal

ONE MORNING WHILE DRESSING, I felt a pea-size lump under the skin in my upper leg. Because I had experienced so many healings through Christian Science in my life, I was sure that this could be healed through prayer.

I had learned that all cause and effect are in God, Spirit, not matter. I understood that God is All-in-all; that He controls His creation in perfect harmony, and this includes my entire being. I held to and expounded these facts that day, expecting healing. But the next morning the lump had swollen prominently and was very painful, so much so that it made sitting, walking, even lying down, most uncomfortable.

I then turned to the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy for increased spiritual enlightenment. In John 1:3, for instance, I read, "All things were made by him [God]; and without him was not any thing made that was made." Also, John plainly declares that God is Spirit (see 4:24). In correlation with this, Science and Health explains: "Spirit never created matter. There is nothing in Spirit out of which matter could be made ..." (p. 335). Accepting these facts in prayer, I knew that God had not created this condition; therefore, there was nothing to be afraid of.
