From the window of his second-story home office in Upland, California, Rob Gilbert can catch a clear view of Mt. Baldy's 10,000-foot-high peak. On cloudier days, though, its snowy top prefers to hide. But there's more on Rob's mind than hidden mountain tops. As a Christian Science practitioner and teacher, he often contemplates the nature of hidden thoughts. His article, "Latent thought, active response" (p. 28), explores the benefits of learning more about influences that lie below the surface.

A five-handicapper who lives in New York City, Rick Lipsey writes about golf at Sports Illustrated, where he works closely with top instructors, including Laird Small, whom Rick interviewed for this month's issue (p. 40). When he's not working, Rick spends as much time as possible in the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, where he started the Bhutan Youth Golf Association in 2002, while on sabbatical from Sports Illustrated.

Christian Science practitioner and teacher Judith Hardy Olson kicks off a new Journal feature on Church this month with a look at the connection between Church and healing (p. 18). "Mary Baker Eddy said she longed for the day when no one could enter a Church of Christ, Scientist, no matter how sick or sorrowing they might be, without being healed," Judy explains. "I can't think of a better purpose for Church than that." Judy lives and works in Westport, Connecticut.
