LOIS CARLSON loves music, people who love music, and living IN Chicago's West Loop neighborhood in a rehabbed industrial building with walls so thick she can play her piano fortissimo and not bother the neighbors. But it's too bad her neighbors can't hear her laugh, either—Lois's rolling, laugh-with-me, healing kind of laugh that can zap pretense and demolish fear. Above all, Lois loves to practice prayer-based Christian healing, and to teach others how to heal.
Lois has been a full-time Christian Science practitioner since 1976, and in 1991 she became a Christian Science teacher. Her practice and teaching are based in Evanston, lllinois, just north of Chicago, where she shares an office suite with other Christian Science practitioners. When the Journal asked Lois, who is one of our contributing editors, to be part of this series, she asked that we focus on helping readers to feel the naturalness of accepting and pursuing their own healing practice. So that's where we started our conversation.
Do you see the desire to help others—to be a healer—as something that's natural and innate to everyone, or does that desire need to be nurtured in order to develop?
