IT STARTED suddenly. One day I collapsed and fell to the floor unconscious. Then I had another attack about a month later. Soon, this was happening almost weekly. This was not only distressing to me, but to my family and co-workers who often witnessed the events.
Prayer is the most natural way for me, as a lifelong Christian Scientist, to address any challenge. This situation was no different. So I began to pray diligently for healing with the loving support of a Christian Science practitioner. I started to study the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, as I had never studied them before. But I never doubted that I would be healed, even though the situation was daunting.
I kept these statements from Science and Health at the forefront of my thought: "When fear disappears, the foundation of disease is gone," Science and Health, p. 368. and "If you succeed in wholly removing the fear, your patient is healed." Ibid., pp. 411–412. In dealing with my fear, which at times was overwhelming, I leaned heavily on the basic fact that God is my life, with the very core of my being resting on His love.
