MAKE ROOM FOR RICHES

From the August 2005 issue of The Christian Science Journal

To hear speak of her acting days isn't just to be transported from Broadway to Hollywood and back to the stage again—or simply to relive artistic accomplishments and famous roles played. It's to go deeper, and stand in awe of the countless examples of the one divine actor at work. To see evidence of God's activity in every detail of a career—and a lifetime.

Perhaps best known for her role in the '50s and '60s television show Make Room for Daddy, Ms. Lord began her acting career on Broadway, where, while still in her teens, she debuted in the Pulitzer Prize winning play The Old Maid. Since then, Lord has had a rich and varied career in an industry known for its capriciousness. But this, she says, is more than just a testament to her versatility as an actress. It's evidence of the precise and unwavering care that God, divine Love, shows to each of His children. Divine Love meeting the human need. Lord spoke recently with the Journal's about how it all started.

Marjorie, you've just returned from touring with your first Broadway play. You're 17, and alone in New York. This is where the story really begins, isn't it?
