The future? Improve it now!

From the August 2005 issue of The Christian Science Journal

TA DA DA DA ... TA DA DA DA ... TA DA DA DA.... It followed me around as I did my housework—this jaunty little unfinished tune that kept repeating itself over and over. It came from a musical toy carpet sweeper pushed by my perky toddler daughter, who was having the time of her life helping mommy. It was a happy time, even though that tune drove me a little crazy.

Repeated worries about the future are a bit like that little tune: "How will this turn out?" "What if that happens?" "Where are we headed?" Over and over, day after day, night after night. Yet every morning when our feet hit the floor, guess what? It's today!

All anyone ever has of the future is his or her thought of it. The good news is that instead of allowing our thought to go into states of suspended animation, where unfinished tunes play themselves over and over again, you and I can actually improve the future by improving our thinking—now.
