NEARLY 20 YEARS AGO, I discovered a lump in my breast. Terrified that it might be cancer, I quickly turned to God for help. For four months I diligently prayed about this condition with the help of a Christian Science practitioner. I never wavered in my conviction that I would be healed.
One day I came across Mary Baker Eddy's statement "There is no disease" (Science and Health, p. 421). This unequivocal statement of truth startled me. I knew in my heart she was right. Mrs. Eddy had proved in her healing work that disease disappears when fear of disease is eliminated.
At one point, I researched the word substance. Mrs. Eddy began her answer to "What is substance?" by saying: "Substance is that which is eternal and incapable of discord and decay. Truth, Life, and Love are substance ..." (Science and Health, p. 468.)
