Mary Baker Eddy indicated that spiritual healing originally built the Christian Science movement. And there is every reason for us to assume that healing will rebuild it today. The healing of limitations, frustrations, estrangements, and fears, as well as the healing of sin, sickness, and death-Christian healing of every discord-is still "the babe we are to cherish" (Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896, p.370).
Why is healing so important? Because it proves the simple and pure statement of Christian Science revealed to Mary Baker Eddy. It proves that reality is spiritual, infinitely good, and that man is perfect. It gives irrefutable evidence that the revelation of divine Science, the Comforter, is valid. When you heal a resentment or an ache or a fear, you have participated in proving everything the Discoverer of Christian Science gave to the whole world. Mrs. Eddy writes, "A simple statement of Christian Science, if demonstrated by healing, contains the proof of all here said of Christian Science." (Science and Health, p. 547, emphasis added.) Science and Health gives us the full statement of Christian Science; we must give ourselves and the world proof of this statement through healing-by overturing every facet of mortality.
The Christian Science Board of Directors, through numerous meetings in the Field, has been encouraging students of Science and Health to be wide awake to whatever would claim to interfere with decisive and consistent healing.
