Testimonies of Healing

Disbelief and discernment

From the May 2006 issue of The Christian Science Journal

ONE OF THE THINGS I'VE LEARNED about healing is that it is important to expect it. As a lifelong Christian Scientist, I've found that this attitude has made a great difference in the many healings I've had. I've also learned that rather than just accepting adversity, it is important to try to view situations the way God views them, as this also helps to promote healing.

These two attitudes of thought were very important to me when, one night, after arising from bed, I fell. Though I managed to return to bed, I found in the morning that I could not move my left arm or leg.

The first thought that came to me was that I had had a stroke. But something in me immediately responded, "No, I do not accept this!" Rejecting this appearance is in keeping with what Mary Baker Eddy wrote in Science and Health, "Disbelief in error destroys error, and leads to the discernment of Truth" (p. 346).
