HAVE YOU EVER FELT THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING MORE you needed to do to deserve God's love? Or that the way you've lived in the past has earned you a place outside of God's love? To these questions, divine grace brings an answer of comfort and peace.
As I've considered the whole subject of grace, I've come to feel that God simply loves us all—no matter what. From the standpoint of Christian Science, if God is Love, if He is infinite, eternal, omnipresent divine Love, then all that God can possibly do is to be that Love. He can only love us with an infinite, boundless capacity, throughout all time, and everywhere. This love exists for each of us quite independently of anything we might ever do in this present sphere of existence.
We really can't win God's love, and we certainly can't lose God's love—any more than our actions could win or lose the sunshine on a cloudless summer day. The same sunshine is present for everyone, without limit or personal restriction, because the nature of the sun is always to shine, universally and impartially—and not just at noonday when no clouds are present. And likewise, we live every moment in the light of God's love. We take sustenance from it. We gain the meaning and purpose of our lives from it. God's love, experienced through His grace, is, in fact, the very reason for our existence and the greatest thing our lives were ever intended for. We live for Love, and we live to love.
