BOARD OF LECTURESHIP

A MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGERS OF THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE BOARD OF LECTURESHIP

From the August 2007 issue of The Christian Science Journal

MARY BAKER EDDY EXPECTED members of her Board of Lectureship to present "The Christ mode of understanding Life—of exterminating sin and suffering and their penalty, death ...." This requires them to be "reaching deep down into the universal and rising above theorems into the transcendental, the infinite—yea, to the reality of God, man, nature, the universe" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 248).

Members of this Board endeavor to meet that high standard in each lecture given and are eager to partner with Christian Science churches, societies, and college organizations in sharing this universal message of Christ-healing with audiences around the world.

According to the Church Manual, each branch church is required to "call on the Board of Lectureship annually for one or more lectures" (p. 95). Many branches are finding good results from sponsoring multiple lectures. These may include opportunities to host lectures for Christian Science care facilities, camps, or annual meetings of institutional committees. If you sponsor a lecture for one of these groups or for any audience closed to the general public, such as a prison, we encourage you to have a second lecture open to a more general audience so anyone interested may attend.
