HOW MANY TIMES HAS SOMEONE ASKED YOU, "Are you happy?" Having faced that question more than a few times, I have learned there's only one legitimate answer, "You bet I am—very happy!"
I have been surprised to discover that more than a few people actually want to hear that we are unhappy or dissatisfied in our lives. Perhaps that's because human thinking has been conditioned to accept that unhappiness, depression, and tragedy have as much currency as happiness and joy. But this human thinking, or what Christian Science terms mortal mind, gets things wrong.
We get things right when, like the Apostle Paul, we recognize that "we have the mind of Christ" (I Cor. 2:16), which is never unhappy. Consistent acknowledgement of the one divine Mind controlling all aspects of creation automatically opens thought to the joy that is indigenous to our true, spiritual being. That influx of true happiness inevitably drowns out the carnality of mortal mind and its self-imposed misery. Yielding thought to the "mind of Christ"—affirming our divine right to be joyous—silences the so-called mortal mind and its false beliefs of despair and gloom.
