MARY BAKER EDDY, the Leader and Founder of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, established through the Church Manual a complete educational system designed to protect the integrity of the teaching of Christian Science and to share its powerful, tender message with all mankind. This system includes the weekly Bible Lessons, Sunday School, Church services on Wednesday and Sunday, contacts with Christian Science practitioners, Christian Science lectures and periodicals, service through Church membership, and Primary Class instruction.
Prayer is the starting point for anyone contemplating Primary Class instruction in Christian Science. God, divine Love, can be trusted to guide one to find the teacher best suited for them. At the same time, it is reassuring to know that each teacher is also praying to recognize that those whom they are to teach, and those who will be taught by every other Christian Science teacher on earth, are being guided and directed by God alone, and nothing can interfere with this divine direction. As a result of this prayer, the name of a teacher may occur to a prospective pupil.
There are several other practical ways in which this prayer may guide one to find his or her teacher, such as consulting either the list of teachers provided after these comments or the directory each month at the back of this Journal, and requesting an interview. Or perhaps a teacher has written an article in the periodicals or given a lecture that resonates with one's thought. Other fine teachers have not yet been published or are not presently lecturing. In any case, it is the responsibility of the prospective pupil to initiate the contact with the teacher, because in accordance with the Manual, teachers do not solicit.
