DURING THE SUMMER OF 2006, I visited a friend who was on a work assignment in Hungary and is a dedicated Christian Scientist.
One weekend afternoon we went swimming in an outdoor pool complex, and my friend decided to go down a very steep slide that had a big warning sign next to it saying that you were taking this slide at your own risk. We arranged that I would go down first on a different slide, and then watch her coming down.
After my friend landed, she was floating in an unusual position with her head face down in the pool.
