LETTERS

From the July 2010 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For a number of days after reading Lisa Troseth's article "Unity: It's Inescapable" (May Journal, p. 54), I am still touched and drawn back to how she described the importance of something so small (and yet so valuable) as the instantaneous healing of a paper cut, mostly because at the time her thought was arrested by higher and deeper ideas. She writes: "... the vivid spiritual insight I gained in that instant felt profound. It's continued to be a source of inspiration, contributing to 'larger' healings ...."

Her experience brings back to me one of my own that has always been precious. Sometime in mid-grade school, I experienced a small cut on a finger. Rather than accept it as fact, I immediately chose to turn to the truths I had been enjoying in Sunday School, those of God's allness, goodness, and ever presence, and therefore my inherent innocence as His image and likeness. With that I felt at peace, put it out of sight, and went on with what I was doing. Later, I noticed there wasn't a mark to show that the cut had ever happened. That was the beginning of my confidence that God would always be there for me. It has been one of many healings my family and I have experienced over the years, and for which I am very grateful.
