Transition to a new manager of The Christian Science Publishing Society

From the August 2011 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Christian Science Board of Directors has elected Jonathan Wells to succeed Lyon Osborn as Manager of The Christian Science Publishing Society. In his current role as Managing Publisher of The Christian Science Monitor, Jonathan has helped guide the Monitor through a period of significant transition and growth. Over the next three months while Lyon transitions to his new role as Treasurer of The Mother Church, Jonathan will be preparing to engage in his new role, which will become effective by early September. At different periods of time in our history, the role of the Manager has adapted to the specific needs and opportunities of the moment. With Jonathan’s appointment, the role will once again be the senior executive for all Publishing Society activities. Responsibilities will include finance, operations, and coordination of product planning and development for JournalSentinel, Herald, Bible Lesson Products, General Publications, and the Monitor. Jonathan will work closely with the editors of the Church’s publications and with the Trustees of the Publishing Society, complementing their strengths with his publishing experience, general business acumen, and his particular skills in strategic planning, relationship development, and communications.

During the coming weeks, attention will be given to filling the senior product/publishing position currently held by Jonathan, as well as to reviewing the management structure of the Publishing Society.

Each one who serves in these roles leaves a legacy to be built upon by others. Lyon Osborn has contributed a high level of clarity of thought, focus, and consistency of purpose in meeting the requirements of the Church Manual and the Deed of Trust and in serving the Publishing Society’s customers, and has effectively forged strong working partnerships within and outside the Church organization.
