Of Good Report

An ever-present help

From the October 2014 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A very valuable truth we learn in Christian Science is that God is divine, infinite, eternal Life and Love. God is ever-present Truth, and this can be affirmed with certainty in the midst of any fearful situation. I was able to feel the peace and love that come from this spiritual understanding during a walk in the woods.

It was a beautiful spring day, and my husband and I decided, after reading the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson together, to go for a walk and talk about spiritual truths with each other. When we arrived at the edge of the woods, we started walking down a trail along a river. As we were making our way down the trail, we heard screams in the distance, like the sound of kids playing together but more intense. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw something falling from a railroad bridge (about fifty feet up) into the river below. As we got closer to the scene, we found two teenagers on the riverside, who seemed very frantic.

They told us their friend had jumped from the bridge on a dare. It was apparent alcohol was involved, and the teens didn’t know what to do. The river was very shallow and full of debris. One of them went in to find the girl who fell, and 911 was called.
