Last winter several incidents brought about back pain so severe that I could hardly stand or sit comfortably. I tried a couple of common material remedies, a chiropractor, and holistic medications, but there was no relief. Then, finally, I asked myself, “What am I doing? I need to call a Christian Science practitioner.” Practitioners have always been effective in their prayers for me for healing. Without fail.
I was surprised when this time the practitioner directed my thought to simply knowing God better. So I dedicated a couple of hours each morning to doing so, quite happily and effortlessly.
I studied the Bible Lessons found in the Christian Science Quarterly, and read the Christian Science periodicals slowly, carefully, making notes of ideas that struck me as important as I went along. There were so many phrases that lifted my thought that I can’t point to any one in particular. They all washed over me in “flood-tides of Love” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 201). In a few days, the pain was gone.
