Haven’t we all yearned to feel God’s presence? Who exactly is this God we want to feel close to? In the book of Revelation, St. John refers to the “seven Spirits which are before his throne” (1:4). It’s interesting to think of these “seven Spirits” as being indicative of God’s seven-fold nature.
In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy provides seven synonyms for God: “Divine Principle, Life, Truth, Love, Soul, Spirit, Mind” (p. 115).
Many years ago I began praying daily about each synonym when I woke up. I pondered the allness of God: the order and dominion of Principle, the activity and eternality of Life, the reality and accuracy of Truth, the goodness and compassion of Love, the harmony and purity of Soul, the power and perfection of Spirit, and the magnitude and intelligence of Mind. Many mornings during the last half century I’ve awakened in discomfort, but after I’ve dwelt on God’s nature, pain has disappeared.
