While driving home from a Wednesday evening testimony meeting at my branch Church of Christ, Scientist, I started to feel pain in my mouth. I remember my first thought was, “Well, I’ll have a testimony to share at next week’s testimony meeting.”
When I got home, I gave myself a Christian Science treatment. This included a denial of the false belief that there could be sensation in matter and that this could be painful, and an affirmation that I am a spiritual idea of God. By the time I went to bed, the pain had yielded, and the issue seemed to be resolved.
When I woke up the next morning, one side of my face had swollen, and I was experiencing pain in my mouth again. I was scheduled to serve in the local Christian Science Reading Room later that morning but was uncertain if I would be ready to fulfill this post, considering the discomfort and swelling. I contacted the Reading Room librarian to communicate my doubt about being able to serve that day, and she replied with an offer to switch with her and take the afternoon shift instead.
