One weekend three years ago, I was doing some yardwork in the woods. All of a sudden, my left arm was stung by a hornet. I felt a sharp pain in my arm, but I immediately turned to God in prayer, knowing that all of God’s creatures are harmless, since God is good, that there is no poison in God’s kingdom, and therefore there was no poison that could hurt me as God’s spiritual child.
For many years I have relied on prayer in Christian Science, having been healed of measles, aftereffects of a bicycle accident, headaches, colds, and serious symptoms including inflammation. I have found that the truth Christian Science teaches about God and our inseparable relationship to Him is an ever-present help, so it was natural for me to turn to God in this situation.
However, as I prayed, the situation appeared to worsen. I began to feel intense heat and dizziness, and a rash appeared. I felt that I needed to return to the house right away. But each time I tried to stand up, I fell. Nobody else was at home, and my wife was visiting her sister in another state. And I did not have a cellular phone with me to call for help.
