Fresh insight
[“ ‘I recognized my innocence’: attack of pain stopped,” Caleb King, July 2017, Journal]
I have been so grateful for the articles and testimonies in the periodicals and for the reader comments later that made me go back and read them with fresh insight.
I read Caleb’s testimony a number of times over the past couple of days, gaining further understanding each time. This quote really had an impact on my thinking: “I paced in my bedroom, strongly stating that my consciousness, reflecting Mind, God, was a place of peace, encouragement, harmony, kindness, and love, and that this consciousness was eternally free from any attack of the belief of fear, danger, or physical pain.”

Doubt can be overcome
[“Getting past doubt: how the Bible helped,” Abraham McLaughlin, June 2017, Journal]
Thank you so much to Abe for his willingness to share his experience of doubt and its beautiful resolution. I, too, have witnessed the Christ-love at work in my life in times when my understanding and demonstration of Christian Science have been challenged. It is comforting to know that overcoming doubt is possible and to be reminded of all the examples we have in the Bible and throughout Christian history of God’s trustworthiness.
I am so grateful for every individual who takes the time to write for our periodicals, as each one reminds me that Christian Scientists are at work throughout the world. I’ve also had many of my own healings by reading and studying various pieces over the years. It is a comfort to be reminded of the constant and current presence of God’s love for Her children.

Relevant issues addressed
I appreciate each and every Journal; however, what a special issue I found the June 2017 one to be! It included so many uplifting articles and testimonies and addressed issues so relevant to today.
For example, the possibility of church decline was addressed in Margaret Rogers’s editorial, “The new spirit rising,” when she stated that “God’s will is perpetual progress.” And to anyone worried about random acts of violence, the interview, “Healing answers to violence,” addressed that issue. I loved the poem, “Christian Science nurse,” and the article “Moving away from it’s-all-up-to-me prayer,” which I found really helpful.
I enjoy listening to the authors read their pieces, too, and I found myself clicking “like” every time!
