Many different pets have lived with our family through the years, each one being very loved as well as bringing love themselves. One cat, Sylvester, who joined our family in more recent years, has also proven to be a great blessing.
One day Sylvester was scratching himself more often than normal. Although I didn’t think too much of it at the time, I did do some cleaning around the house to eliminate any sort of pests. But over time, it was apparent that Sylvester’s condition was not improving, and lesions began to appear on his skin and around his face. At this point, I decided to turn to God in prayer for healing. I had recently taken class instruction in Christian Science, which is a course that helps one learn how to heal in Christian Science, and I felt this was an opportunity for me to put into practice what I had learned.
I continued praying for several weeks, but the cat’s condition only seemed to get worse, so I asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me and with me about this. She shared several spiritual insights, which helped me keep my thought on spiritual truths about God and His spiritual, perfect ideas, instead of on the material evidence. I knew that God made all spiritual and whole. One idea that resonated with me was that the real Sylvester—created spiritually by God—was not experiencing what I seemed to be seeing. The practitioner and I prayed together a couple of days.
