The Word of God and what it means is of immeasurable significance to those who would be spiritual healers. What then is the Word? It is the law of God coming to consciousness, bringing spiritual understanding and revealing the healing power of divine Truth and Love. This was exemplified in the life of Christ Jesus, who best understood God’s Word and, as a result, healed. And he promised us God’s Word would always be with us. It speaks to the heart, freeing us from a mortal sense of identity with all its troubles, and lifting our thought to the truth of being as spiritual and pure.
So why is this important to us? To understand that we too speak with the power and authority of God when voicing His truth enables us to heal as Jesus taught. And to recognize this God-given authority and power is in itself healing.
Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness” (p. 332). In a sense, Christ is the message and the Holy Ghost, or divine Spirit, is the delivery system—a “two-edged sword” (Hebrews 4:12) with all the power of infinite Love to heal and bless. The authority of this voice cannot be silenced, and the power of its delivery cannot be restrained or delayed. What promise this holds for healing!
