I would like to relate how I discovered Christian Science about a year ago, in June 2018, which has led to several healings. I noticed a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy on a shelf at my local library. I am an avid reader, always searching for inspiration, and I was immediately attracted to the themes of Christianity and healing described in marketing copy on the back of the book, where it said, “This is a book for thinkers.”
I took the book home and began reading it from the beginning. I was intrigued by the first chapter, “Prayer.” It describes how effective prayer comes from being quiet and being open to God instead of trying to tell God what to do. As this chapter states: “The wisdom of man is not sufficient to warrant him in advising God” (p. 3).
Although a lifelong Christian, I had seldom prayed about my physical ailments, most of which I had been told were the result of aging and little could be done about them. So, as I read through the first few chapters, I was giving no particular thought to these ailments, but instead just concentrated on understanding Mrs. Eddy’s words. It was not easy reading, but I enjoyed the challenge and found myself running to my unabridged dictionary for help!
