The healing practice of Christian Science includes the understanding that the divine Mind, or God, is the only real Mind, and that our only real selfhood is the expression of this Mind. This means that we don’t have a personal mind or ego-driven selfhood separate from God, the one divine Mind that includes all.
But we never have to give up our true selfhood or individuality, which exists as the image and likeness of God, Spirit—and is therefore spiritual, not material.
The view that our individuality is material instead of spiritual is a product of what the Bible terms “the carnal mind,” which “is enmity against God” (Romans 8:7). But because the carnal mind is not a real mind, it cannot really influence us into accepting a mistaken material sense of what selfhood is. Nor can it keep us from embracing the truth of our spiritual being as God’s own image. When we do embrace this truth, we begin to discover incredible spiritual blessings.
