I live in a tropical climate, and in my teens I regularly suffered from migraine headaches, especially during the rainy season. This had a negative effect on my life, especially during school and when I was doing intellectual work. No remedy I tried brought relief, so I thought I would just have to continue living with the condition.
Then, as a young adult, I began studying Christian Science, and it opened my eyes to my false belief that the weather could make me suffer. From the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, I learned that we are God’s creations and actually live within the pure atmosphere of Spirit, where there is no pain or disease of any kind.
In Rudimental Divine Science, Mrs. Eddy states, “The spiritual power of a scientific, right thought, without a direct effort, an audible or even a mental argument, has oftentimes healed inveterate diseases” (p. 9). This was the case with me. Inspired by what I was reading about God’s tender care for His children, I stopped fearing that material conditions could have power over me, and the chronic migraines simply disappeared. To me, it was fulfillment of God’s promise in the Bible: “For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord” (Jeremiah 30:17).
