I once had a rosebush in my front yard that was planted in the shade, and it never bloomed. I had no idea why. I’m not sure how long it had been there before I did some research and found out roses like full sun instead of shade.
So I moved the rosebush to the backyard and planted it in a sunny spot. Almost immediately, it started to grow tall and strong. Before long it began to bud and blossom with exquisite, fragrant pink roses all over. I loved that rosebush and never forgot that roses need sunlight to grow and bloom.
What about us? If we feel we are in darkness, discouraged, without inspiration, can we move into the light and find the help we need? Yes. I’ve found that the warmth and light of God’s love are always present, and turning to God awakens us to our real being, created in God’s spiritual image and likeness. And the Bible tells us that in turning from matter to Spirit, we “cast off the works of darkness, and . . . put on the armour of light” (Romans 13:12).
