Testimonies of Healing

Healed after a fall

From the December 2023 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When I was a teenager, the lady who rented the upstairs of our home introduced my family to Christian Science. She was a delightful person. She was thoughtful in her expressions to us and had a warm, pleasant manner whenever we asked about Christian Science.

Her insights and the Christian Science literature she shared led to our family attending the local Christian Science church. Since then, for over 75 years, my family and I have experienced numerous healings, protection, and guidance through applying the spiritual understanding of God’s presence as taught in Christian Science. A few of our blessings are published testimonies in The Christian Science Journal and Sentinel.

One notable healing occurred last fall when I slipped and fell while getting out of the car. I hit my head hard on our cement garage floor, and the wound bled profusely.

I quickly turned to God, and mentally heard words to this effect: “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5). Soon I also recalled a statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “. . . man is the likeness of God, pure and eternal, having that Mind which was also in Christ” (p. 467).

These references were familiar to me and spoke to God’s presence. I knew I was in God’s care, and I could never be separated from Mind—the same Mind that Christ Jesus proved, through his healing and teaching, to be ever present.

I asked my wife to call a Christian Science practitioner, and the practitioner agreed to pray for me. She also said that we could call a Christian Science nurse to help with cleansing and covering the wound. Within a few minutes the bleeding slowed considerably and then stopped, and I had no swelling, pain, or lapse of memory going forward. The healing was soon complete.

I continue to be deeply grateful for God’s ever-present, infinite love.

As I helped my husband into the house, I immediately began praying. The Bible says, “God is love” (I John 4:8). The Bible also includes the statement, “In him we live, and move, and have our being” (Acts 17:28). Therefore, we live in God’s love. Even when we stumble, we are still surrounded by this love. A favorite hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal says, “Everlasting arms of Love / Are beneath, around, above” (John R. Macduff, No. 53).

The situation appeared serious. As mentioned in my husband’s account, we called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful support. I also called a Christian Science nurse to help tend to the wound.

The Christian Science nurse was so happy to assist, but was almost three hours away. I felt we needed immediate help. She kindly agreed to talk me through the cleaning and bandaging of the wound.

As I was preparing to listen to the Christian Science nurse’s instructions, I saw the wound begin to close. Her kind help and the prayers of the practitioner resulted in a beautiful healing. Very soon there was no evidence that there had been a problem
