Safe and sound with the Lord’s Prayer

Several years ago, on a cold night a couple of weeks before Christmas, I was working the night shift at a convenience store, when I noticed a car backing into the parking spot next to the front door. Several things raised alarms in my mind. First, backing into a parking spot isn’t typical. I also observed that there was no rear license plate on the car. Then the driver got out, walked around to the passenger side, opened the door, and reached under the seat. I caught a flash of silver as he placed something in his left hand and pulled a coat over his arm. I thought he seemed primed for a robbery and a quick getaway.

I began shaking uncontrollably and immediately started to pray the Lord’s Prayer, along with Mary Baker Eddy’s spiritual sense of it, an interpretation I had learned as a youngster in the Christian Science Sunday School. The opening lines are: 

Our Father which art in heaven,
      Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious,
