One afternoon, while waiting for my car to be serviced at a local dealership, I decided to go across the street and look around in a furniture store. I was eating pretzels, when suddenly, in the parking lot, I inhaled several small pretzels and my windpipe became blocked.
I gasped for air, but that made the situation worse. Coughing was futile also. Unable to breathe in or out, I knew I needed to calm my thought and pray, as I feared I might pass out.
Psalms 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” I knew my help was understanding that God, Spirit, is in control of my life and that no material circumstance is truly real or has control over me. The fear subsided, and I felt calm and not alone.
