Why should I attend church?

From the February 2024 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Originally published in German

I used to find thoughts about church coming to me such as, “Do you really want to go? Have you figured out how far you have to drive, what it costs, and how long you’ll be on the road?” These thoughts needed to be checked and corrected.

Several ideas from a recent Journal article inspired me as I thought about this topic. The author writes: “More than just a vehicle for congregational worship, church is vital to our individual spiritual growth” (Abigail Mathieson Warrick, “Church’s healing outreach,” December 2022). This becomes more understandable when we start with Mary Baker Eddy’s definition of Church:

“The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle.
