One day I was on my way to have lunch with a friend, and as I sat down on the bus, I noticed that a protrusion on my back was making it uncomfortable to lean against the seat. Even though I was somewhat distracted during lunch, I was still able to reach out in prayer to God, our loving, caring Parent, and felt peaceful enough to enjoy the lunchtime companionship.
Later I contacted a Christian Science practitioner for metaphysical treatment. Our prayers helped remind me that, at that very moment and always, I could be nothing but perfect, as God made me. That night, as I got into bed, I continued praying. I was motivated by the thought that to work for healing is an active expression of compassion for mankind, because it involves knowing the truth not only about myself but about everyone, and this has universal benefit.
Many citations from the Christian Science textbook brought me peace and a growing willingness to accept the healing truths I was reading. I have come to love entertaining these truths, reasoning with them, and feeling assured that there is no disease in the universe of God’s creating.
