Integrity and Healing

From the October 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The method of Christian Science healing is wholly mental—spiritually mental. Not a single element of matter or of mortally mental energy enters into it. It involves the destruction of whatever is wrong and bad in human experience—through the understanding and expression of spiritual truth, which is always right and good.

Preparation to become a Christian Science healer requires the development of spirituality along the lines of integrity taught and lived by Christ Jesus. It involves learning to know as he did that Life is God and that the real man created by God is spiritual, loving, and lovely, made and maintained absolutely perfect in every respect. It also demands daily progress in not only knowing these facts of the presence of God, good, and of His perfect idea, man, but living them—keeping thought in line with the divinely real, and in doing so demonstrating the presence of good not only for oneself but for others as well. It means that we should work to have perpetually in us the Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus," Phil. 2:5; so that we may always be honoring God, divine Spirit, in deed as well as thought, always expressing the qualities of Truth and Love, always demonstrating the spiritual perfection and eternality of Life with absolute integrity as he did.

Spiritual integrity, which demands that we not only talk the truth but live it, is among the essential Christian qualities one needs to express in order to heal. And it is, in fact, natural that everyone should express it. Integrity is a quality of God, divine Principle, and therefore a quality of man, God's idea and exact image. When we express it, we prove in some degree man's unity with God, Truth, and, at the same time, the presence with us of spiritual good. And when good is demonstrated as present, evil, good's opposite, is shown to be absent. At this point fear, disease, lack—all discord—have yielded to joy, health, abundance, and harmony in the blessed event that human beings call healing.
