THE Annual Meeting of The Mother Church convened on Monday, June 7. As usual, the great Church was filled with happy Christian Scientists from this and other lands.
WE are glad to share with our readers the larger part of the proceedings and reports of the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church held in Boston on June 2. The more normal facilities for travel now available made it possible for many to attend who were unable to do so in recent years.
We are happy to give to the Field in this issue of the Journal a report of the proceedings of the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church, held in Boston on the third of June. Although traveling conditions are as yet far from normal, the great edifice of The Mother Church Extension was filled with happy Christian Scientists from all parts of the continent, and some from abroad, who listened with evident appreciation and enthusiasm to the encouraging reports of the officers.
IN The Christian Science Monitor of April 14 and the Sentinel of May 19, The Christian Science Board of Directors, in announcing the date of the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church, called the attention of the Field to the Government's restrictions on travel during these critical days. Christian Scientists, a large number of whom were from the vicinity of Boston, filled the great edifice of The Mother Church Extension on June 4 and eagerly and with evident enthusiasm followed the reports of the various officers.
In June, 1899, the God-directed Leader of our movement, Mary Baker Eddy, in a message to The Mother Church (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 125 ) wrote: "Brethren, our annual meeting is a grave guardian.
It cannot be doubted that during the past year every consecrated member of The Mother Church the world over has earned the royal title, "Christian Scientist. " Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, reminds us: "A real Christian Scientist is a marvel, a miracle in the universe of mortal mind.
The large attendance at the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church on Monday, June 2, 1941, indicated unmistakably the desire of the members to show their practical interest in maintaining and perpetuating the organization established by Mary Baker Eddy for the purpose of extending to mankind the benefits of her spiritual teaching. The Christian Science Board of Directors helpfully pointed in their message to the significance and value of this organization, but showed the need for Christian Scientists to make spiritual healing paramount in their daily lives.
Many members of The Mother Church attended the Annual Meeting on June 3, and listened appreciatively to the various addresses and reports which were read. In their address The Christian Science Board of Directors voiced their profound gratitude "for the loyalty which the Field expresses to our Leader and to her movement," and stated that they were "particularly mindful of the strength, courage, and sacrifice of the Christian Scientists across the sea," to whom their hearts went out "in understanding love and support.
