According to the testimony of the five material senses, man appears to be the offspring of human parents, a mere speck in an immense material universe. Everything which he needs for satisfaction in the way of food, clothing, housing, transportation, companionship, seems to be outside himself and obtainable only through a more or less laborious struggle.

The Bible account of Jesus' raising from death the only son of the widow of Nain contains a lesson and inspiration beyond the Master's convincing act of restoring to life one who had died. We note that Jesus, his disciples, and a great number of people were coming "nigh to the gate of the city" ( Luke 7:12 ), but the funeral procession was going out; in other words, one group was approaching, and the other was leaving, the city.

Christian Science assures us that the evidence of God's allness and goodness is ever present despite the apparent contradictions of many material conditions and events, and it explains how to experience this good now. One may view, in certain museums, armor of the type worn by knights of olden times. Made of metal and completely covering the body, a suit of armor afforded the knight protection as he engaged in battle with his enemy.

One who believes material sense testimony thinks he is a corporeal personality in a material world. Discord comes from this false sense of things, not from a material cause.

To love, to be loved, and to do the works of Love is man's destiny as the child of God, for Love is the clearest name for God. We can see throughout Bible history that the impelling force of Love operating in human experience freed men from every form of threatening error, leading them on to heights of triumph and rejoicing.
