ABIDING IN LOVE

From the December 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In our day-to-day experiences it is right for us to feel secure; but security is not found in matter, nor does it derive from material reasoning. It comes with the realization that we abide in God, divine Love. And we need occasional reassurance that God's love is actually present to take care of us, lead us through unknown and uncharted ways that lie ahead, guide us through troubled waters, heal our ills, and preserve our well-being.

The prophet Jeremiah had an abiding conviction of the Father's love. He told the people that the Lord had appeared to him, saying (31:3), "I have loved thee with an everlasting love." We become conscious of the Father's loving care in proportion as we attain a clear sense of the divine ever-presence; and commensurably as this sense is attained, thought becomes spiritualized and turns naturally away from matter to Spirit to find health, security, and peace of mind.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes (pp. 365, 366), "The poor suffering heart needs its rightful nutriment, such as peace, patience in tribulation, and a priceless sense of the dear Father's loving-kindness." Christian Science brings to mankind today an understanding of God as divine Principle, Love, a supreme, ever-present force governing the universe, including man, in perfect harmony; and this Science teaches men how to bring every physical condition or human circumstance under the control of this all-loving Principle.
